Reading this guide helps you avoid costly mistakes. You’ll learn what questions separate professionals from risky alternatives.
What Things to Confirm Before Hiring A Tree Service Company?
Hiring the wrong tree service costs money and creates safety risks. One bad choice can damage your property or hurt someone. Be careful before saying yes.
Insurance & Licensing
You must verify they have general liability insurance. Also, ask for proof of workers’ compensation coverage, and check their business license with the city. A legitimate company provides these documents right away. If they refuse or make excuses, move to another company.
Experience & Expertise
Ask how many years they’ve worked in Athens, their training on regional pests and diseases, and request photos of similar work. This will confirm if they know how to deal with trees like Water Oaks and Red Maples that need experienced hands.
Safety & Procedures
More than 20 people died during tree work in 2023, which is why you need to prioritize safety. So, when hiring a tree care company, you must ask what safety measures and equipment the crew uses. Request details on their safety process. A reliable company shall use tools, such as:
- Helmet with a face shield or goggles
- Climbing rope
- Harness and lanyards
- Work gloves
- Safety boots
- Hearing protection
- Chainsaw chaps, etc.
Estimates & Contracts
Get written estimates from multiple companies. The estimate must list what work gets done and the relevant costs. Confirm cleanup costs are included, and ask if stump grinding costs extra or is included. Make sure the estimate is written, not verbal.
References & Reputation
Experienced companies don’t hesitate to share documents regarding their previous projects. Take some time to check Google reviews, read them, and see what their customers have to say. It’s important to avoid companies that only have vague reviews with no details.
Permits Handling
Sometimes, you may need city approval to remove trees, especially those that are in the public right-of-way. Professionals are familiar with the tree service regulations in Athens that you may not be aware of. Therefore, hiring a company that assists you with the permits makes the process more convenient for you. A knowledgeable company handles this without stress for you.
